Ramu Goes to Town

Ramu Goes to Town

CLUCK ! CLUCK ! The bullock cart moved along the rubbled path, clattering over the stones, the wheels turning over and over. The day was warm and bright. And noisy too. But ramu riding the cart felt at peace. At last ! a trip to town. Few day back, a phone call from raj. Inviting him to town. An offer he couldn’t refuse. Raj, the old schoolmate now in AMERICA!! While ramu was stuck at his village tending to cows and bulls. And when the invitation came he found it very hard to refuse. And so left ramu towards the town of Agra. While the bullock cart moved along, ramu cherished the trip, this mind on the air conditioned office in AMERICA, while heads of sweat dropped from his forehead.

With a jerk, he dropped from the castle in the air. He was on the middle of the road, strange vehicles blaring horns at him. Ramu looked around. “Move along man ! Can’t you see?” , shouted a rugged looking teenager sitting on a big cycle. Ahead there was a pillar where a green light was glowing. Basnti, the oxen was getting irritated. I think the only sound she heard was “Mooo…….” Of Balram the ox. Slowly Ramu started moving his cart along the plethora of strange vehicles.
They moved so fast !! Moving along his eyes ran over a building. A yellow building in which something was written in black. Wasn’t that the indications given by raj through phone or was the writing in blue ?? He feathered basanti to a lamp post and made his way to the building.

A giant of a man, with long moustache and heard opened a glass door for him. Inside good looking lady smiled at him. Not as good look as Radha his wife. He stood smiled at the thought of Radha. Then he realized the beautiful lady was asking him something. What a strange language ?? ! Puzzled ramu explored the building. Moving stairs, ladies in pants !! This was really a wired world.

An hour has passed and still he couldn’t find Raj. Slowly he made his way back to the cart. To his surprise there stood only a cart and no bullock. A very round man wearing khaki pants was beckoning him. Ramu moved towards the man.

“Don’t you know using animals for pulling load in the middle of the road is punishable? You have to pay a fine”, said the man.

What !! but in the village all use cows and oxen any way he opened his bag and took 2 Anna coins and handed it over to the man.

“Wow ! 50 paise a n fine don’t kid with one man ! Take 5000 rs now.”

5000 rupees. He had never seen 5000 rupees in his life. Not even his house and Basanti cost 5000.

After some times Ramu found himself wearing white shirt and pants, locked in jail. While his thoughts ran over Radha, there was Balram the ox thinking of Basnti. And Basanti mooed…….. happily as she was feathered with a new ox in the town zoo.

After, 3years Ramu dressed as same returned to his town only to find the place just like town. It was no more the village of Durgapur it was now renamed as Durgs town. There was no need to go to town. He could have waited 3years for his village to turn into a town.
